Kenya 7s will tackle Argentina in the Hamilton 7s Challenge trophy semifinals after eliminating stubborn Tonga by a 19-12 beating in a match at FMG Stadium.
Paul Murunga charges managed open the scorers in the first 22 seconds of the game after Johnstone Olindi pressurized Tonga players, kicked the ball and chased to get Kenya’s first try that was converted for a 7-0
The youngster continued to produced beat display that saw Kenya break once again but Harold Anduvate was unable to score for Kenya as he was held up as he made an entry in the try box. Kenya would win back the ball and Olindi put through skipper Jacob Ojee who send Kenya to 12 points.
Tonga, however, ensured they went to the halftime break with only seven points to fight for after bagging an unconverted try. On return from the break, Tonga looked sharper than Kenya and made several offloads that propelled them to Kenya’s 22 but they kept at bay by they impressive defence.
Their breakthrough came with two minutes to go as Tali Finau scored a five-pointer for Tonga to tie the scored at 12-12. Daniel Taabu stretched Tonga’s defence released Vincent Onyala who was caught before reaching the try box and it was Olindi who completed the move to hand Kenya a converted try and a place in the semis,
