Kenya 7s struggles in the Group stages of the 2018/19 World 7 Series continued as they suffered the second straight defeat in the Hamilton 7s after falling 19-10 to Scotland in a match played on Saturday morning at the FMG stadium,
To take an early lead, Scotland took the ball to several phases to gain entry in Kenya’s 22 and Robbie Ferguson managed to break and score for Scotland the opening that was converted 7-0 lead.
Kenya’s attempt to score at the other end was thwarted following a knock on by Johnstone Olindi. The Scots won back the ball and launched an attack that was completed by Ferguson to mark his second try of the game.
From the halftime break, Scotland picked from where they left and Gavin Love would sneak past William Revee to scorer try number three for the side. Kenya were again let down by a knock on as they tried to surge forward.
The breakthrough for Shujaa came two minutes to time, as Brian Wandera offloaded to Vincent Onyala who raced over to bag a five-pointer for Kenya.
As the clock continued to tick, a quick tap by Olindi from a penalty saw him release Daniel Taabu who touched down for Kenya and cut the gap to nine points but it was too late to recover in the game.
With the quarterfinal dream shuttered, Kenya’s final game in Group stages will be against France.
