Du Plessis hails Wokorach heroics in win over Nondies

Kabras Sugar head coach Henly Du Plessis lauded utility back Philip Wokorach’s impact in their 41-5 annihilation of Nondescripts over the weekend.

The Kenya Cup tie, played at the Jamhuri Showgrounds saw Wokorach, who was recently named Uganda’s 2018 Rugby MVP, score three tries.

“He (Philip) is always important to our game both kicking wise and in terms of tackling,” said Du Plessis.

“His ability is of great value and he has been doing a lot for the team this season,” he added.

The South African tactician was however, not impressed by the fact that his charges failed to register any points in the second half.

This, he said, was as a result of being complacent and possessing the mentality that the match was already won.

“It looks like we just stopped playing in the second half.We didn’t use the ball like we wanted to and we were kicking away possession. This gave them (Nondies) an opportunity to attack,” Du Plessis lamented.

Saturday’s win meant that Kabras’ unbeaten streak stretches to seven matches.

“We are allowing teams to get back into the match especially in the second half. I think it’s because we lack some concentration and think that the game is already won.

As much as it’s important to win, we should start improving on our second half display. That is something we shall discuss in our team talks,” he said.

Kabras, who sit pretty at the helm of the 12-team standings will this weekend welcome a resurgent Mwamba side at their Kakamega backyard.
