Homeboyz RFC sneaked with a 19-18 win over Nakuru RFC in a Kenya Cup staged at Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday evening.
Though it a closely contested opening half was witnessed, it was Homeboyz who settled fast in the game. The Deejays made several visits to Nakuru’s half before Jan Remke put through Leon Adongo who raced to the try line and touched down at the left corner.
Nakuru launched a fightback immediately but they could not breach Homeboyz defence in the opening 35 minutes. Their mission received a blow after Lucas Atito was sent off for a sin-bin. Homeboyz immediately scored but their try did not count as the referee spotted a forward pass in the last play leading to the try.
In the final minutes of the opening half, Nakuru stepped up their play after Atito’s return and they managed to equalize through Philip Kwame before Martin Muita converted for a 7-5 lead.
On return from the break, Nakuru added three points but Felix Ouma would respond at the other end with a try that was converted to hand Homeboyz a lead. Moses Okendo and Lorence Ishuga were sin-binned leaving Nakuru with 13 men on the pitch.
The Deejays made the numerical advantage count as they scored through Stanley Isogol and Mohammed Omollo added the extras for a 19-10 lead. Nakuru trimmed the gap with a penalty from Muita. Nakuru landed a try a minute to time but Martin Muita missed to added the extras and they would lose by a point.
