Alvin Otieno commonly referred to as Buffa and Homeboyz team mate Charles Omondi are some of the names missing from the Paul Murunga coached side that will travel to Hamilton and Sydney for the third and fourth rounds of the world sevens series.
Both players were in the squad that played in the opening rounds in Dubai and Cape Town but were not included due to injuries.
“Charles Omondi and Alvin Otieno miss out on the tournament due to injuries,” reads part of a statement by KRU.
They join a long list of close to 16 players missing from the squad traveling for the next two rounds.
This has seen Murunga delegate captaincy duties to KCB Jacob Ojee who comes into the squad after a long absence. Eden Agero who captained the side in the first two rounds joins other senior players like Collins Injera, Billy, Dennis Ombachi, Andrew Amonde, Willy Ambaka, Dan Sikuta who have opted to stay out of the sevens squad following a row over contract terms with the Kenya Rugby Union.
Things seem to be getting even more complicated for the sevens side after KRU chairman issued a stern statement to the players saying the “union will not be held hostage by a few players” further saying that the players will not get another chance to play for Kenya sevens in the future. This was during the confirmation of Sylvia Kamau as the new KRU CEO.
Murunga made five changes to the side that will don the national colours in Hamilton and Sydney.
