Nakuru RFC head coach Mitch Ocholla attributed the 36-21 loss to Kenya Harlequins to the penalty try awarded to the Ngong Road based club as well as one of his players being sin-binned.
The Kenya Cup match, played at the RFUEA grounds over the weekend, saw Quins take a healthy 24-14 lead to half-time before the visitors cut the deficit courtesy of a Duncan Abuyeka converted try.
Nakuru would however be undone by an infringement in their territory which saw Quins awarded a penalty try to stretch their lead.
“I think the yellow card and penalty try is what opened up for Quins. They (Quins) were basically superior and for us it’s about going back to the drawing board,” Ocholla said.
After six matches, Nakuru are 8th on the standings, two points outside the play-offs positions.
“We were able to play well until the 60th minute when we blew away,” said Ocholla.
Next for Ocholla’s men is a home tie against Homeboyz on Saturday.
