Kisumu head coach Howard Okwemba has said that playing for long spells with just 14 men on the pitch cost them the game against USIU where they lost 18-10.
Despite the brave hearts leading the match in the early stages, they lost their lead at the stroke of half time as the Martials used their numerical advantage to get a try. It was the same case in the second half as USIU were able to slot in two penalties while a Kisumu player was in the sinners chair.
” Like we expected, it was a hard game. We played our hearts out particularly in the last half hour. The yellow cards we accrued also affected us as we played for large spells of the game with 14 men. It is a key learning for the boys and should make them rise to the occasion in our next outing.” Okwemba said after the match.
Kisii RFC loss to Mombasa means Kisumu jump to fourth place despite their loss, three points behind third placed Western Bulls.
Kisumu’s next match will see them host Catholic Monks at the Mamboleo Showground at 4.00pm on Saturday 19 January 2019.
