Nondies steal late win over Impala, KCB run over Machine

Nondies narrowly overcame Impala 22-20 in a cagey encounter at the RFUEA to pick their fourth win of the season.

Nondies seemed to be asking hard questions of the Impala defence during the early exchanges of the game. Their troubles bore fruit with two penalties by former Mean Machine man Fielden Sinei before the 15th minute to make it 6-0.

Impala would then spring into life after the 20th minute and  four minutes later Steve Shammah would pick the ball from the back of a scrum and power his way past a napping Nondies defence to cross over the white chalk.

Impala would continue their resurgence with Edgar Obino bullying his way over the line for Impala’s second try with seven minutes of the first half left. Quinto Oongo adding the extras to make it 12-6.

Sinei would then add a drop goal to his points tally at the stroke of halftime to make matters 12-9, Impala leading.

Nondies came out of the blocks quicker, Brian Safari pouncing on a loose ball eight minutes into the second half to score  after Sammy Oliech failed to get hold of a ball from Mark Kwemoi. Sinei would then add the extras to make it 16-12. Sinei would then add a three pointer minutes later to take extend Nondies lead to 19-12.

Things would stay like that for a while before Oongo slotted in a penalty for Impala after an infringement to take the scores to 19-15. The Impala onslaught would continue and it was rewarded three minutes from the final whistle when Kwemoi fed a brilliant Richard Sidindi to go over the line for a one point lead. scores now 20-19.

With a minute to go, Sinei had the chance to give Nondies the win but missed, the ball sailing wide from the uprights. Drama was yet to unfold just as Impala thought they had sealed the match, Nondies got another penalty and this time round Sinei made no mistake converting the penalty for the 22-20 win.

Defending Champions KCB, whipped Mean Machine 50-3 to keep their Chase on Kenya Cup leaders Kabras RFC.
