SOYA Awards: Kipchoge beats Ambaka, Laiser win big

Kenyan International Willy Ambaka came second runners up in the Sports Personality of Year Awards held at Fort Jesus in Mombasa on Friday 11 January Night.

The Male Player of the year was won by Marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge who is also the IAAF male athlete of the year.

Kenya Lionesses speedster Janet Okello also finished as the second runners up in the Sports Woman of the Year Category. World Women’s steeplechase world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech walked away with the award.

Kevin Wambua finished second in the Coach of the Year category losing to Tennis coach Rosemary Owino. Kenya Lionesses were also second in Women’s team of the year awards, with the title going to Telkom Hockey Team.

In the School category, Laiser Hill picked the male school of the year award beating  UpperHill Rugby who came second.

National school games organizers Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) scooped the Federation of the year award beating Athletics Kenya and Football Kenya Federation.
