Cape Town 7s: Argentina survive Kenya 7s late scare

Kenya 7s produced a spirited second-half display but eventually fell 34-31 to Argentina in the  Cape Town 7s Challenge trophy quarters played on Sunday.
Paul Murunga charges who are yet to win have dropped to the 13th place semis and will face African Champions Zimbabwe.
Kenya conceded 24 points in the first half, youngster Ignacio Mendy breached Kenya’s defence and scored the opening try in the opening minute. On the restart after the try,  Sabato knocked the ball back and Lautaro Bazan Velez who beat several players in Kenya defence and released Sabato who went over for the second try.
Lautaro Bazan Velez added the third try before 18 years old Mendy got back on the scoresheet with his second try.  Leonard Mugaisi pulled one back for Kenya by scoring at the right corner at the stroke of halftime.
In the second half, Mendy got his third try while Gastol Revol sent the Argentines to 34  points.  Alvin Otieno put Kenya to 12 points with a converted try before Vincent Onyala sold a dummy and touched down at the centre taking Kenya to 19 points
Johnstone Olindi and Sam Motari added two more try but Kenya failed to send the match to extra time after a missed conversion
