Impala win against stubborn Strathmore Leos

Impala Saracens managed to overcome Strathmore Leos by 16-9 in a cagey match played at the Impala club.
The students started brightly with Gideon Makumi slotting in a penalty from close range to give his side the lead. Minutes later he would slot in his second penalty to take Strathmore 6-0 up.
Both teams seemed reluctant in attack and Impala finally registered points after 24 minutes with a Quinto Ongo penalty after an infringement on an Impala player.
Impala then went ahead almost immediately when Edmund Anya capitalized on a sloppy Strathmore play to intercept the ball and run in for an easy try taking the scores to 10-6.
The students were lucky not to fall further behind as Ongo missed a penalty and had his try disallowed, the referee calling for a forward pass. The scores were still locked at 10-6 as the teams went into the break.
Strathmore added three points early in the second half courtesy of Makumi cutting the deficit to just one point. Ongo was once again denied another try after he had sliced his way through the Strathmore defence for an early infringement. He would then slot in a penalty to widen their lead to 13-9.
Things would stay that way until Mark Kwemoi’s drop goal changed things on the scored board with 8 minutes remaining.
Strathmore would unleash mayhem in Impala’s five for close to nine minutes in search for a try that would bring them level but Impala would hold on for a 16-9 win.
A third win in a row for Impala.
