Canada Captain reflects on Repechage route to RWC 2019

Canada secured the 20th and final spot for Rugby World Cup 2019 after downing Hong Kong 27-10 in Marseille.
The South African born Van Der Merwe has been sensational all through in the repechage for his country. He was on a red hot form in the final game against Hong Kong as he crossed the white wash twice with hooker Ray Barkwill going over once.
“We’re over the moon.Coming into this we knew it would be tough. We knew each game would be a different task. But all the support from home and the way boys have dug in and got all the work done building up to this in the last year has been awesome,”said the Canada captain.
By doing so,Canada maintained the 100 percent appearance in the global showpiece event since it was first played in 1987.All credit is given to Kingsley(Jones) who has been instrumental in upskilling the Canada team.In soggy Marseille grounds,Canada forwards managed to outsmart their opposites in what was a scrappy encounter.
” It was a super scrappy game but we are just so happy to come away with the win.We wanted to play straight away once the review from the last game was done and get into this world cup.Credit to the coaching staff, they came in when we were in a pretty bad spot but Kingsley(Jones) has upskilled as all and has put us in a position now where we are through to world cup.”
Canada now joins the two time back to back world champions New Zealand,Italy,South Africa and African Gold Cup champions Namibia.Phil Mack maintains that the hard work is about to begin since they don’t want to be pushovers in Japan but they want to perform.
“That goal is done but now the hard work really starts because we have  got to go to world cup and perform. We’ll enjoy this moment but then we’ll have to hit the afterburners and work towards the world cup,”concluded the captain.
The North Americans will begin their world cup campaign against Italy on September 26,2019 in Fukuoka.
