Kenya Simbas World Cup dream shattered

Hong Kong came from behind to beat Kenya Simbas  42-17 in the second Repechage match staged Stade Delort, Marseille on Saturday afternoon.
Kenya came to this clash seeking to bounce back from the opening 65-19 loss to Canada and they started off brightly. A maul from the lineout saw Kenya draw closer to the 22 metre line. Halfback Felix Ayange then fed Tony Onyango who scored for Kenya at the 16th minute. Sammy Oliech added the extras for a 7-0 lead
Ian Snook charges continued with the good show after several phases and continuinty  Elkeans Musonye went over for Kenya’s second try. Hong Kong pulled one back through Max Denmark and a successful conversion by Ben Rimene saw Kenya head to the break with a slim lead.


In the second half, a well-executed lineout saw Nick Hewson dot the second try while Rimene added the extras for Hong Kong to take the lead. Toby Fenn added the third try and Rimene took the side to 21 points.
Opondo pulled one back for Kenya but Thomas Lamboley scored at the other end to hand Hong Kong a bonus point.  The Television Match Official decision saw Lamboley second try count as they hit the 35 point mark.


Hong Kong final try came in the dying minutes and they would convert to end Kenya Simbas journey to the World Cup.
