KCB down Oilers in Kenya Cup

Kenya Cup defending Champions KCB handed newbies Menengai Oilers a 27-5 loss in a match staged at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday evening.

KCB kept Oilers backfoot in the opening minutes of the clash. The Nakuru based side, however, stood tall and kept the Kenya Cup holders at bay for 14 minutes. Oilers we dealt a blow after their flanker was sin-binned.

KCB drew the first blood in the 17th minute when Rocky Aguko picked the ball from a ruck to score in the corner. Things would not get any better for oilers as KCB ace Ken Moseti would latch onto oilers kick, glide through two-three defenders before offloading to a rushing Isaac Njoroge for the second try.  Michael Wanjala added the extras to take the game to 12-0.

Things would get slippery for Oilers at the half hour mark when Adrian Opondo ran over the white chalk for KCB’s third try with Michael Wanjala missing the extras. Oilers replied in the closing stages of the first half with Vincent Mwikali dotting down from oilers maul making it 17-5.

Oscar Simiyu went over the whitewash only four minutes into the first half to stretch the bankers lead to 22-5 the conversion hitting the bar.

KCB suffered a blow twelve minutes into the second half when replacement scrum-half Samuel Asati had to be led off the pitch after suffering a concussion.

It would prove to be a quiet second half with Oilers putting up a strong show but the try line eluding them on several occasions. KCB had the last laugh as Rocky Aguko bagged a brace on stoppage time taking the tally to 27-5.
