Kenya 7s hits Mwamba in Safari 7s opening round

Safari 7s defending champions Kenya 7s started off their title race with a 53-0 win over Mwamba in a pool A match staged at the RFUEA Grounds.
Daniel Taabu produced a clean pair of heels and set up debutant Johnstone Olindi who touched down for converted for a 7-0 lead. Kenya extended the lead with a try from  Leonard Mugaisi who went over at the corner flag for an unconverted try.

Shujaa were reduced to six men after Olindi was sent off for a sin bin. His absence did not affect the team as they scored through Herman Humwa for a 19-0. Olindi announced his return by putting through Mugaisi who scored for a 24-0 lead at the break.
On return from the break, Kenya ran two quick tries with one coming from substitute Alvin Otieno. Dennis Ombachi also had his name on the scoresheet as well Menengai Oilers forward Harold Anduvate. Mark Wandeto ensured A 53-0 win with a try at the death. In another Pool A match, Apache hit Namibia 28 – 5.
Other matches 
Samurai started their campaign with a 27-5 win over Red Wailers in the opening clash of the Safari 7s tournament. Spain also started their chase on a winning note, edging Emerging Uganda 24 – 19.
In Pool C, Kenyan Morans beat Uganda 19-12 after having touched down three tries with two being converted. Uganda only went over twice and converted one of the tries. National 7s Circuit champions Homeboyz started the campaign on a losing note, falling 19-14 to Portugal.
