Machine, Blad to face off in Varsity League finals

Five weeks of scintillating Varsity League action draw to a close this weekend when Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad duel the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine in the final at the University of Nairobi Grounds on Saturday 27 October 2018.
The two sides reached the title match in contrasting style, K.U blitzing the Catholic University of Eastern Africa into a 44-7 submission while the University of Nairobi needed a 3-1 penalty shootout win over Egerton University after both sides were tied 11-11 at the close of regulation and extra time in last weekend’s semifinal fixtures played at the Egerton University main campus in Njoro.
Overall, it has been an enthralling five weeks pitting teams from eight Kenyan Universities competing under the umbrella of the Kenya University Sports Association seeking to be crowned the kings of varsity rugby.
Additionally, with the competition restricted to players aged 25 and below, coaches have been given the luxury of testing their wider squads ahead of the Kenya Rugby Union’s 2018/19 League season which kicks off across all tiers on Saturday 17 November. It has been a welcome pre-season preparation for these sides.
