Varsity League round three review, semi finals pairings

After the conclusion of the Varsity League preliminaries last Saturday,Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad and University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine topped their respective pools ahead of the semi finals.
Heading to the final round of preliminaries at the Kenyatta University grounds, the quartet of Machine,Egerton Wasps,Blak Blad and Catholic Monks had already secured quarter finals slots and were only josttling for top position.
Playing in front of their home fans, Blak Blad, winners of the KUSA 7s circuit shut out Egerton 27-6 to top pool A thus setting up a mouthwatering semi final match-up against pool B runners up Catholic Monks who lost to Machine.
Against Blak Blad, Egerton who will host the semi finals this weekend found the going difficult as they failed to register a try, getting onto the scoresheet courtesy of two penalties.
Machine, meanwhile blanked out Catholic Monks 26-10 to remain on course for their maiden Varsity League triumph. The University of Nairobi side will now face Egerton in the last four.
Despite their semi finals hopes all but shuttered,UoE Trojans bowed out of the competition on a high as they walloped Technical University of Kenya 23-0.
In another dead rubber fixture, KRU Championship side JKUAT Cougars  were 19-18 winners over Technical University of Mombasa.
The semi finals will be staged at the Egerton Grounds,Njoro on 20 October with Nairobi’s RFUEA Grounds hosting the play-off and final on October 27.
