Kenya 7s hits hapless Botswana in Africa 7s opener

Kenya 7s kicked off the Africa 7s campaign on a fine note as they whipped Botswana 49-0 in the opening clash of the tournament staged in Tunisia.
From kick-off, Cyprian Kuto, managed to speed off for Kenya’s opening try. Daniel Taabu conversion saw Kenya go seven points up. Michael Wanjala extended Kenya’s lead after being set up by Taabu.
Taabu’s try
Taabu, would land his first try in Kenya’s jersey and he converted to send Kenya 7s to 21-0. Eliakim Kichoi was sin-binned and the side had to play with one man less in the closing stages. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Kuto beat Botswana defence and fed  Wanjala who bagged his brace. Leonard Mugaisi added another try for a 35-0 lead at the break.
Shujaa’s opening try in the second half was ruled out. Alvin Otieno then crossed over for a converted try that pushed Kenya to 42 points. Gramwel Bunyasi’s yellow card saw Kenya go back to six men but Derrick Keyoga managed a converted try for a 49-0 win.
Kenya 7s will be back in action on Saturday at 44o PM where they will battle Morocco in the second and final match of Pool A.
