Mean Machine beat UoE Trojans 27-18 in the third Varsity league match played on Saturday 29 September at the UoN Grounds.
Machine started off brightly, taking the game to Trojans and they would get a three-pointer through Festus Shiasi. UoE fought back and leveled the scores with a penalty from Edwin Yatich at the other end. Ben Mwangi landed Machine the first try of the game at the left corner but Shiasi missed the conversion.
The Kenya Cup returnees went on to dominate the possession as the chase for the second try continued. Their chase, however, suffered a blow after Trevor Asina was sin-binned. Minutes after being reduced to 14 men, UoE’s Alex Mwange pounced on an overthrow line out and dashed past Machine players to score their opening try for the Nairobi based side, Yatich converted for a 10-8 lead.

From the break, UoE extended the lead with Yatich’s penalty sending them to 13-8. Asina returned from a sin-bin and touched down at the right corner for Machine to tie the scores at 13-13. A minute later the fullback squandered the chance to put the side to lead after sending his conversion wide.
Asina hit a brace after by scoring the left corner. Shiasi added the extras to send Machine up to 20-13. An Intercept from Tony Kajala left Machine defence well beaten and he would land an unconverted try to cut the gap to two points.
Machine widened the gap with a converted try from Aaron Otieno that saw them take a 27-18. The final game will now see Blak Blad tackle JKUAT.
