Nakuru, Homeboyz through to Driftwood 7s quarters

Driftwood 7s holders Homeboyz and last year’s runners Nakuru have qualified for the Main Cup quarters of the competition after picking second wins in their respective pools.
Homeboyz became the first side to reach the main cup quarters thanks to a 22-5 win over Menengai Oilers. The Deejays led 17-0 at the break following tries by Johnston Olindi, Oscar Ayodi and Mark Wandeto. Kenyan International Jeff Olouch would seal their victory with a second-half try.
In the second Pool A match, Nothern Suburbs shocked hosts Mombasa. The Suburbs converted all their three tries while Mombasa crossed the white chalk just once for 21-5 scoreline.
Pool B
MMUST suffered the second successive loss in the competition, the Kakamega based side threw away a 14-5 halftime lead and allowed their opponents Kisumu to fight back for a 17-14. The loss means the side will not have a place in the main quarters. Nakuru RFC joined Homeboyz in the quarters after another 12-0 win. Wanyore took a 7-0 lead to the break and added unconverted try in the last half.
Kabras dream of reaching the quarters for the fourth time in a row this season is still alive after picking the first win of the tournament following a 7-5 win over Impala. The Sugarmen were trailing at halftime 5-0 following a Billy Omondi’s try. The Series Holders would, however, respond with a converted try in the final half. KCB will also have a chance in the main cup quarters after 24-5 win over Strathmore,  the win saw the Bankers maintain the lead in the tough group.

In final Group, Mwamba bounced back to winning ways after a win over Makueni. Kulabu found themselves behind, following an early try by Makueni. The Blackshirts response came from Skipper Eliakim Kichoi while unconverted try Steve Sikuta gave them a 12-7 lead.
Daniel Taabu converted his own try while Matt Wanjia scored their fourth try for a 24-7 lead. In the final match, Frank Wanyama bagged hattrick before Alex Olaba scored their fourth try. The Ngong road based side survived a late scare by Nondies to win.
