Kabras, Kisii, Oilers, have qualified for the Driftwood main Cup quarters after the conclusion of the opening round matches played on Saturday at Mombasa sports.
Homeboyz finished top of pool A after a 38-5 win over Northern Suburbs in their final Pool A match. The Deejays led 26-5 at the break before stretching the lead further in the closing half with two tries, with one being converted.
Menengai Oilers made a return to the Main Cup after missing out in the last two tournaments. They beat hosts Mombasa 12-5. The match was tied at 5-5 at the break before Oilers broke away with a converted try.
Kisii are also through to the last eight after beating Kisumu RFC 22-0. Two tries in the opening half with one being converted and two more in the unconverted tries in the closing half were enough for the former Kenya Cup side. They join Nakuru who topped the pool B after 24-5 win over MMUST.
Impala registered the biggest win of the day after whipping Strathmore Leos 45-5. Sam Motari (brace), Mark Kwemoi (brace), Paul Mutsami (brace) and Eric Kerre scored for the win. Kabras reached the last eight despite suffering 24-0 loss to KCB.
Nondies beat Makueni 10-0 as after a try in either half. In the final match Alex Aturo, a brace from brace from Daniel Taabu saw them move to 21-5. Quins fought back and managed a converted in the final half.
