Machine sets sights on Driftwood 7s main cup final

After a quarterfinal appearance at Kabeberi 7s, Mean Machine 7s coach Ramseyfield Matekwa is targeting a better performance in Mombasa and has set his sights on the Main Cup final appearance.
In Machakos, the University of Nairobi side made to the fifth-place semifinals where they fell to host Mwamba RFC 38-5. To reach the fifth place semis, Matekwa’s charges drew with Kabras, beat Nondies, lost Nothern Suburbs on day one. On day two the side fell narrowly to KCB in the main cup quarters.

As they head to Mombasa, the coach hopes to have sharpened their skills and he is confident that they will be able to achieve their targets.
“In Mombasa, we are focusing on the main cup finals. That is what we will be preparing for this week. We think we can make it and the boys are ready to fight. If we achieve that, it will be a great growth for our side,” he told Scrummage.

The side has been pooled alongside Homeboyz, Oilers and hosts Mombasa. They will be hoping to replicate last year’s performance which saw them reach the Driftwood 7s  the semifinals only to lose 5-0 to Nakuru.
