Homeboyz boss Paul Murunga says he called in Kenya 7s skipper Oscar Ayodi and halfback Augustine Lugonzo to add experience to the team and he is impressed with their impact.
Murunga, however, utilized them sparingly and he reveals that his decision was to allow the players who had impressed in the first two legs to keep their slots. The former Kenyan International is happy with Ayodi and Lugonzo’s contribution off the bench.
Homeboyz beat Nakuru RFC 19-7 and won the third straight main cup title in 2018. Speaking to the Scrummage after the win Murunga said:
“I brought in the experience of Ayodi and Lugonzo. Most of the time they came off the bench because the other guys were winning, and they were more of impact players. They played well and made sure that we won.”

When asked about the most outstanding player in his 12 man squad that travelled to Machakos, Murunga picked on fly Johnstone Olindi, the tournament’s top points scorer, as the best due to his good vision of the game that saw win all the games.
“Of course, its Johnstone Olindi. He makes sure that the team is ahead by scoring. He is so talented, has a good vision of the game which pushes the team forward,” he added.
Homeboyz will be chasing the fourth leg, Drifwood 7s this weekend. The side has been drawn alongside Oilers, Mean Machine and Mombasa.
