How Ambaka earned a place in the Kenya Simbas squad

As the Kenya Simbas tackle Tunisia in the Africa Gold Cup match on Saturday 11 August, Kenya 7s star Willy Ambaka will be operating on the open wing.
The Kenya Harlequin man has been handed a debut in the 15s team and he will replace Kabras ace Felix Ayange who has been rested by head coach Ian Snook.
Ambaka had a busy schedule in the 2017/18 season with the Kenya 7s, after having taken part in the World 7s Series, Commonwealth games and the World Cup.
Coach Snook revealed that Ambaka requested to be included in the 15s squad. The coach did some research on how the winger performed in the 15s version while plying his trade at New Zealand’s Manawatu and got positive results that prompted him to hand him a chance in the team.
“Willy spoke to me after the Uganda game and indicated his interest so Roly and I did some research with Manawatu in NZ where he had played previously and the reports were extremely positive. We watched a bit of footage in the Manawatu colours and decided he would fit in well in this group. Now he has a chance to show how good he can be in XV’s and we wish him all the best.” Snook told KRU.
Kenya will be hunting for a bonus point win against Tunisia to cut down the gap separating them and leaders Namibia.
