KUSA 7s: Strathmore stuns Machine to sail into cup final

Strathmore Leos needed a last gasp try to see off hosts Mean Machine 19-15 on Sunday 5 August in the semi final at the ongoing Kenya Universitys  Sports Association (KUSA)  sevens.
With the win, Strathmore have booked a date with either Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad or MMUST in the final.
Machine suffered an early setback as dependable halfback Valentine Odoyo suffered a jaw injury, his place taken by Kelvin Maasai.
The University of Nairobi side then drew first blood as Nick Mutura powered his way to the tryline for a five pointer .
Strathmore did not take time in finding a response, Brian Alukwe converting Barnabas Owuor’s touch down for a 7-5 Leos’ lead .
Ian Bulali’s unconverted try on the stroke of halftime sent John Mbai’s charges 12-5 up at the interval.
After introducing skipper Shadon Munoko, Machine came back for the second stanza an improved side with Nick Mutura going over for his second of the match to take the scores to 12-10 in favour of Strathmore.
The hosts went 15-12 up courtesy of Mutura’s third of the match before Andrew Matoka struck a late converted try to send Strathmore to the finals.
