KUSA 7s: Blak Blad outwits Strathmore to win UoN leg

Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad have been crowned champions at the final round of KUSA 7s after edging out Strathmore Leos 24-7 in the final played at the University of Nairobi this Sunday 5 August 2018.
This is Blad’s third cup title this season following similar successes at the Kaimosi and Mombasa legs .
They consequently clinch the overall circuit having amassed 98 points in five legs.
Blad open floodgates
Ahead of the cup final ,Strathmore and Blak Blad had already faced of in pool C with Strathmore winning 15-12 and Blak Blad showed their intentions of avenging the loss when they took a 5-0 lead through Ted Okal’s try.
Ian Bulali drew Strathmore level after sprinting to touch down between the sticks,Brian Alukwe sure with the extras.
Marshall Mutai’s unconverted try at the left corner would send Blak Blad 10-7 up as the referee signalled for halftime.
Strathmore were dealt a numerical blow with Philemon Odero being sent to the sinbin for an infringement before Dennis Odhiambo extended Blak Blad’s lead after crossing the chalk for a try which was converted.

Okal compounded to Strathmore’s woes by sealing his brace for a 24-7 win.
Meanwhile, University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine settled for third position after easing to a 15-0 win over Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST ).
Machine scored three unconverted tries courtesy of skipper Shadon Munoko and speedy winger Nick Mutura who helped himself to a brace.
