NATIONAL SEVENS CIRCUIT

Mwamba coach explains undoing in Sepetuka 7s final

Mwamba Rugby Club coach Kevin Wambua attributed their 25-0 Sepetuka 7s final loss to Homeboyz to failure in keeping possession.
Sunday’s duel was a repeat of the Prinsloo 7s final which the Deejays won 19-12 with Wambua further lauding his young charges for the positive start to the 2018 Sevens campaign.
“We didn’t have possession and Homeboyz punished us.We defended for the better part of the game, got tired a bit and they were quite physical so we didn’t get the result,” the tactician remarked.
“We knew kicking for territory would be an advantage since the field was wet and that is what we tried but we didn’t get our chasing well.It was just a game of missing possession and we were punished.”
Two finals in two means that Kulabu occupy second position on the circuit standings having garnered 38 points.
“I am proud of the boys. They played well keeping in mind they are a young side.A bit gutted that we were unable to go all the way but at least we are second on the log and hopefully we can build on that.”
Wambua’s charges will be hoping to be third time lucky during their home tournament, Kabeberi 7s slated for the weekend of 18-19 August at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
