MMUST to conduct trials, successful players to earn scholarships

In a bid to boost their squad as well as promote talent, KRU Championship newbies MMUST Rugby will conduct trials on wednesday 25 July  2pm at MMUST grounds with successful candidates set to receive a partial scholarship at the university.
The side which earned promotion to the second tier after winning the Championship in May is looking for youngsters with good rugby skills and experience and have preferably qualified to undertake a degree course Those with diploma qualifications will also be accomodated.
The selection will be led by head coach Dr Ochieng Ahaya. His selection panel will have assistant coach John Asila , coaches Shimenga, Kisala and games department representative Mr chisoka.
The Kakamega based university’s target is to empower needy students who are talented and are also doing well in academics.‬
Since the arrival of Vice Chancellor Prof Fredrick otieno, the university has focused on improving sports and a number of players in the current squad have already been enrolled on the scholarship program.
The side will for the first time play in the National 7s Circuit first division after finishing third in the second division at Prinsloo 7s.
At Sepetuka 7s they will be against Homeboyz, Menengai Oilers and Mean Machine.
