From Ligi Ndogo to the Rugby World Cup, the journey of Sammy Oliech

Impala Saracens ace Sammy Oliech will be making his World Cup 7s debut on Friday 20 July after being named in the final 12 man squad that has travelled to San Francisco.
Oliech played football in his teenage at Nairobi based academy Ligi Ndogo as a striker.  He later went to St Marys Nairobi, former rugby giants. He captained the side for two years before leaving in 2011 after completing his high school education.
Short Stint 
The back joined Nondescripts but he had a short stint with the Rangers. He ditched the side to join Impala Saracens in January 2012. And two years later he had a chance to got to United Kingdom for a one-month exposure where he had to experience how the World 7s scene is.
Oliech featured for the Kenyan under 19 in 2012. A year later he was named in Kenya B Squad that took part in Mombasa International 7s tournament. His performance in the tournament was lauded by the then Kenya 7s boss Mike Friday. He has also featured for Kenya Simbas.
Strenght/ Achievements

The former Saints man has a good eye for the gaps and a good reader of the game as well as being a good defender.
Since making his debut at Kenyan 7s in World 7s series, Oliech has made 112 appearances. He has touched down 29 tries for Shujaa and that totals to 359. He also featured in the Singapore 7s win, the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
