RWC 7s: Zimbabwe Cheetahs coach explains decision to drop senior players

After naming his 12-man squad that will do duty at the Sevens World Cup slated for 20-22 July in USA, Zimbabwe Cheetahs head coach Gilbert Nyamutsamba explained why he had dropped a good number of seasoned players.
A scan through Nyamutsamba’s 12-man travelling party reveals that from the side that participated at the 2013 Word Cup Sevens in Russia, only Tafadzwa Chitokwindo has been retained with regular skipper Hilton Mudariki left out.
“We are looking at life after the World Cup. The selection was, therefore, not only influenced by current form, but also continuity,” Nyamutsamba is quoted by Zimbabwean tabloid, Chronicle.
“Regular senior players still in good form had to make way for a new generation of players,” he noted.
Connor Pritchard who also doubles as a Zimbabwe Sables Player is set to make his World Cup debut.
In Mudariki’s absence, the duo of Stephan Hunduza and Body Rouse have been tasked with leading the side in San Fransisco.
Pre-round of 16
Zimbabwe Sables booked a spot at the global showpiece by virtue of finishing second at the 2017 Africa Cup 7s.
Their hunt for the coveted Melrose Cup begins with a pre-round of 16 duel against Wales and a win will earn them a date against hosts USA for a place in the cup quarters.
Should they fall to Wales in their opener, Nyamutsamba’s charges will be relegated to Bowl.
