Gold Cup: Kenya Simbas focus on World Cup qualification

Kenya Simbas skipper Davis Chenge said that they have set sights on winning their remaining matches in the Africa Gold Cup in order to secure qualification to the 2019 Rugby World Cup slated for Japan. 
This year’s tournament acts as a qualifying campaign to the global showpiece with the best ranked side booking automatic qualification.
“We really needed a bonus point for us to get first position in the competition.Our chase for World Cup qualification is still on track,” Chenge said on the sidelines of their 38-22 win over Uganda.
The second team at the end of the tournament will head to a 4-team Repechage tournament in November 2018 to try and secure the final berth against Hong Kong,Canada and either Samoa or Germany.
“Our main focus is to win our remaining matches and qualify if not as number one we want to head to the Repechage,”he added.
Kenya occupies second position on the Africa Gold Cup standings on 12 points, three adrift log leaders Namibia.
Simbas will return to action on 11 August with a home duel against Tunisia before travelling to Windhoek for a potential decider against Namibia’s Welwitschias on 18 August.
