KRU meets Kenya 7s players in bid to end impasse

The Kenya Rugby Union and Kenya Sevens players held a meeting on Sunday 24 June in a bid to find a solution to the current deadlock between the parties.
The Kenya 7s side has in recent days been hit with a debacle as CS for Tourism Najib Balala cancelled the sh.20 million ‘Brand Kenya’ sponsorship.
On the same day, head coach Innocent Simiyu was sacked after taking responsibility for what transpired in Paris where the players blacked out the sponsors name over unpaid dues.
By the time of going to press, the KRU was yet to formally announce Simiyu’s replacement with growing speculations suggesting that his assistant Will Webster could temporarily take the mantle.
The Kenya 7s team is expected to grace the Sevens World Cup in USA next month. They start their campaign with a pre-round of 16 clash against Tonga.
