Zimbabwe skipper hails coach De Villiers

Zimbabwe Sables skipper Denford Mutangamira is impressed with the positivity that new coach Peter De Villiers has brought to the side ahead of a busy 2018 international season.
The former Springboks coach joined the side in February and he will be tasked with guiding the Sables to their first rugby world cup since 1991.
“I think he has brought a lot of positive energy. He has given players the role to express themselves but within a controlled environment,” Mutangamira is quoted by KweséESPN.
“It has been more to do with changing the mindset of the players, for players to believe in themselves more, to apply themselves more. So he has given us patterns to play, but he has also given us a free role to express ourselves,” he added.
“We used to have problems of finances in the past but this year is different because we have a trust which has managed to look for sponsors for the Sables. We have managed to get money to do what we are doing now, which is very good for us.”
The side recently concluded a seven-day camp in South Africa where they played two test matches against the Vodacom U19s and an amalgamation of the U23s and senior side, losing on both occasions with Mutangamira intimating that they have had adequate preparations.
“It has given us an opportunity to play games before the Test match, so I would say for our first game we will be able to compete. We will be able to express ourselves without any excuses of not having adequate preparations,”the skipper said.
On some of the new faces who have been drafted to the side, Mutangamira said: “We have got Shingi Katsvere from Old Georgians. I can say he has got potential. He can do more, and I think he is under a very good coach who will nuture him to become one of the best fullbacks around. I believe he can get there. Yes, he is young but he can go.”
“We have got [Brendon] Mandivenga, another talented rugby player. He can play flyhalf, he can play centre. I think it’s going to be an exciting combination of him and [Kudzai] Mashawi. We have got Connor Pritchard as well. He was there last year but he is a very promising young player,”he concluded.
