Elgon Cup win termed as a good platform for Kenya Simbas World Cup ambitions

Kenya Simbas flyhalf Isaac Adimo believes that their 36-14 win over Uganda Rugby Cranes in the Elgon Cup first leg provides them with a good platform ahead of the 2018 Africa Gold Cup that acts as a qualifier to the Japan 2019 World Cup.
Adimo’s stellar perfomance saw him scoop Man of the Match award as the Simbas under new coach Ian Snook humbled Uganda at their backyard for a second successive year.
“It’s a good platform for us, everyone wants to qualify for the world cup and everyone is putting their best foot forward. It’s good we started with a win so it put a positive attitude in the boys and we hope to be doing better as we go further,” the Kenya Harlequins halfback is quoted by Kawowo Sports.
Kenya begins her Africa Gold Cup campaign with an away clash against Morocco on Saturday 23 June in Rabat before hosting Zimbabwe,Uganda and Tunisia.
They will then travel to the Hage Geinghob stadium in Windhoek for a date with hosts Namibia on the final match day on 18 August.
The best ranked nation in this year’s Africa Gold Cup will book automatic qualification to next year’s global showpiece where they will slot in pool B as Africa one facing defending champions New Zealand,South Africa, Italy and Repechage winners.
For the second ranked side, they will have to battle with three other countries from the Americas, Asia and Europe in a four-team repechage tournament in November to try and seal qualification.
