Two friendly matches pitting Uganda Rugby Cranes against South African outfit Free State Cheetahs have been cancelled.
The friendlies were scheduled for 30 May and 2 June at the Legends club in Kampala but a statement released by the Uganda Rugby Union on Monday stated the matches will not take place due to the tight schedule of the South Africans.
“Uganda Rugby Cranes’ inbound tour matches against South African side, The Free State Cheetahs have been cancelled due to cheetah’s tight schedule.”
“The Rugby Cranes were scheduled to face the Cheetahs on May 30th and 2nd June but the Cheetahs are sadly unable to make it.”
“We will continue to seek possible ways of making sure the Rugby Cranes adequately prepare for the Gold Cup games and we will update you, ” the statement reads.
The announcement comes barely 48 hours after the Rugby Cranes lost 34-16 to Kenya Simbas in the Elgon Cup first leg.
With the Cheetahs friendlies off, the side’s next assignment could be the Africa Gold Cup opener against Namibia on Saturday 16 June in Windhoek.
