Kenya Lionesses are African champions

The Kenya Lionesses have been crowned 2018 Africa Women’s 7s champions after beating Uganda Lady Cranes 29-7 in the final staged in Gaborone, Botswana this Sunday 27 May. 
By reaching the final of the continental showpiece, both sides are assured of participating at the 2019 Hong Kong 7s which acts as a qualifier to the Women’s World 7s series.
Michelle Omondi and Janet Okello scored two tries each as Grace Adhiambo managed one conversion to send the Kenyan ladies 22-0 up at the breather.
Emily Lekuru would pull one back for the lady cranes after resumption before Linet Moraa put the result beyond doubt with a converted try for Kenya in the dying minutes of the match.
The win in Botswana means that the Lionesses have claimed their first ever continental honours having finished second since 2014.
The side managed a total of 30 tries and 17 successful conversions during the two-day tournament. They let in only two tries.
For a place in Sunday evening’s final,the Kenyan ladies annihilated Madagascar with a 27-0 score as Uganda saw off Tunisia.
