Blow for Kenya 7s, 15s & Quins! Sponsor to pull out

Kenya Rugby Union will have to find another sponsor for Kenya 7s and 15 after Sponsors Sportpesa announced that they will withdraw their sponsorship as from January 2018.
Kenya Cup Kenya Harlequins will also be affected by the move by the betting firm to withdraw the sponsorship.
According to Sportpesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri Betting firms used to pay 7.5% on gross profit plus corporate tax. The firms are now supposed to pay 35% plus net tax of 30 when the new laws comes to effect.
Karauri feels that their cost of operations will be affected by the new tax laws and it will be difficult to participate in Sponsorship partnerships.
“As @sportpesa we will be giving notice to clubs and unions that from January 1 we will withdraw all sponsorships, Karauri tweeted.
“With the new bill coming into effect on January 1st 2018 we want our sport partners to plan accordingly,” he added.
The firm signed a deal close to 600 M wik Kenya Rugby union and also signed with Kenya Harlequins.
