Elgon Cup:Kenya down Uganda Cranes in Kampala

Kenya Simbas will go into the second leg of the Elgon Cup with a five point advantage after beating Uganda Cranes 23-18 in the first leg played in Kampala on Saturday.
Kenya started off strongly getting the first three points from a penalty by skipper Darwin Mukidza. Uganda were then dealt a blow after Marvin Odong was sin binned for an infringement.

Simba took advantage of an extra man and it was halfback Sam Onsumu from Impala Saracens who ensured that the Simba’s extended the lead by five points with his try and Mukidza added two points for a 10-0 lead.
Marvin Ondong announce his return from sinbin with a try that cut the gap to five points before Kabras fullback Philip Wokorach cut the lead to two points with his penalty.
James Odong got the second try of the day for the homeside and Wokorach did his thing for an 18-10 lead as the final first half whistle was blown.
In the second half Kenya started to chase the game and Martin Owila did justice for Kenya with his try that was converted by Mukidza. Kenya’s coach Jerome Paarwater threw in former Hannah forward Joshua Chisanga, who now features for Newcastle Falcon and minutes late Mukidza added another penalty for a 20-18 lead for the Simbas.
Uganda brought in Aaron Ofoyrwoth for Ivan Kirabo but the former did not last as he was yellow carded and Kenya won a penalty from his mistake. The penalty was converted by Mukidza for a 23-18.
Justin Kimono, Adnan Mutebi and Musa Muwonge were players brought in by Uganda but their would not help change the scoreline. They were also let down by a later penalty miss. The two sides will face off in Nairobi for the return leg clash.
