Kabras overpower Strathmore Leos at Impala club

Kabras picked the second win of the season after defeating the newly promoted Strathmore Leos 35-9 in a Kenya Cup match staged at Impala Club on Saturday.

The two were facing off for the first time since the 2018/19 season when Kabras completed a double over the students winning 62-13 in the first leg played on  8th December 2018 in Madaraka and a 54-7 on 30th March 2019 in Kakamega.

Kabras had 10 players who featured in the last meeting on 30 March 2019 while Strathmore, on the other hand, had nine players who played clash held in Kakamega in 2019.  Kabras landed two tries in the first half and three more in the closing half to get a bonus that puts them on 10 points after two matches.

Strathmore took a lead through Brunson Madigu’s penalty. before Kabras responded with a try from veteran forward Lawrence Buyachi off the scrum. Fly-Half Ntabeni Dukisa split the posts from the tee and Kabras went four points up.

Strathmore Leos reduced the gap to a point, scoring another penalty. The scoreboard would once again change and this time around it was Kabras who scored a try after Brian Tanga raced off a scrum, sold a dummy and went past the defence line to touch down. Dukisa hit the target to stretch their lead to 14-6.

The two teams would head to the shades for the halftime talk with an eight-point gap separating them. From the break, another dominant scrum in Leos territory earned Kabras access to the try box after a shove and new entrant Jeanson Musoga at the back of the scrum touched down to stretch the lead.

Dukisa third conversion accuracy sent the Sugarman into the 20s as the gap widened to 15 points. Strathmore would add three more points on the scoresheet after a penalty but Kabras scored the important bonus point from try through substitute Eugene Sifuna.  Dukisa’s conversion attempt was on point, sending the scores to 28-9.

Another substitute George Nyambua crossed over for the fifth try of the match as Kabras hit the 35 point mark thanks to Dukisa’s 100% record off the tee.
