Kenya 7s overpower Chile to extend winning run in Madrid

Kenya scored three unconverted tries to beat Chile 15-5 in the second leg of the Madrid 7s in Spain on Sunday.

The team will now shift focus to their last match against their bogey team Argentina at 3:06pm today. A win for Shujaa against the Argentines will see them finish top in the round robin tournament ahead of the final.

Kenya 7s  were dealt a numerical blow after Alvin Otieno was sent to the sin bin for an infringement in the second minute. Despite playing a man less, Innocent Simiyu’s charges still managed to make forays into Chile’s territory and they were rewarded when Vincent Onyala dived over the whitewash before Tony Omondi failed to add the extras.

Having scored the winning try for Kenya against Spain on Saturday, Daniel Taabu extended his good form as he found the second five-pointer for Kenya with Chile finding it difficult to find a foothold in the match.

William Ambaka then got himself on the scoresheet, collecting Alvin Otieno’s offload on the left wing to extend Shujaa’s lead to 15-0 with a third unconverted try.

Chile managed to reduce the deficit with a converted try of their own before Onyala made a try-saving tackle during the final play to deny the South Americans another try.
