Kenya 7s began their Madrid 7s Campaign impressively picking a convincing 36-5 win over Portugal in their first clash played on Saturday in Madrid.
The first try of the match came from Johnstone Olindi who rose from a ruck and spotted a gap on the left to score. Tony Omondi’s conversion missed the target. Billy Odhiambo doubled the lead beating his markers in the midfield to score a try that was converted by Tony Omondi.
Portugal pulled back with a try before Willy Ambaka’s landed the third try, pacing from the centre after overpowering his markers. Omondi converted for a 19-5 halftime lead.
In the final half, a darting run by Nelson Oyoo after a switch from Odhiambo saw the Co-Captain dive over for a try that send Kenya 24-5 up after Omondi conversion. Innocent Simiyu’s charges would cross the 30 point mark after Omondi’s beautiful offload opened the gap for Oyoo to score his second try of the match.
Kenya scored the final try through Derrick Keyoga. Kenya will be back in action at 6:50 PM.
