Nelson Oyoo scored two tries as Kenya’s national men’s Sevens team beat hosts Spain 19-5 at the Madrid 7s on Saturday.
Innocent Simiyu’s charges, who had earlier beaten Portugal 36-5 in their opening match, scored three tries and two conversions while the Spaniards managed a single five-pointer which was delivered by Noel Carrion in the second half.
Shujaa started the match brightly and their early efforts paid off with Daniel Taabu’s neat footwork freeing up space for Oyoo on the left flank before the Nakuru RFC speedster provided the finishing touch with a try at the corner.
Tony Omondi failed to add the conversion before Shujaa extended their lead after William Ambaka fended off his opponent to touch down between the sticks.
Oyoo, who is co-captaining the team in Madrid alongside Herman Humwa, continued his impressive form as he intercepted a stray pass to race to the tryline for Shujaa’s third try of the match.
Shujaa’s next match in the round robin event will be against the Mike Friday-coached USA at 12:22pm on Sunday.
