Former Uganda Rugby SnC Coach dies

Uganda Rugby Union is mourning the death of former strength and conditioning coach Peter Omony Okot.

Omony who till his death was the vice president Technical of Uganda Athletics Federation-UAF died on Tuesday 1 December at the age of 74. He played for Kampala Rugby Club in the 70s to the 90s and he later moved on to serve as Uganda 7s and 15s SnC coach between 2004 and 2005.

His first task was leading the national 7s team through fitness drills before of the 2005 World Cup qualifiers held in Lusaka.

According to media reports in Uganda the former Uganda rugby SnC coach died at Good Hope Medical Centre in Bar-dege-Layibi Division in Gulu City after a long illness.

“Sad news about the death of Mr.Okot Omony Peter. He used to play rugby at Kampala Rugby Union Football Club in the 70’s up to 90’s. He was also once our National 7’s & 15s Strengthen and Conditioning Coach 2004 – 2005. May his soul Rest In Peace,” reads a statement by Uganda Rugby Union.

Athletics Uganda in a statement said: “With deep sorrow we announce the untimely death of our 2nd Vice President- Technical; Mr. Okot-Omony Peter that occured this morning. Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and Athletics family in this trying time. May His soul rest in eternal peace.”

“Detailed funeral program will be communicated in due course. We celebrate his life.”
