Super Rugby side Hurricanes has penned an emotional message to departing skipper TJ Perenara, who is set to join Japan top tier outfit Red Hurricanes for the whole of the 2021 season.
The move will see Perenara miss the 2021 Super Rugby tournament, but will return just in time for the 2022 All Blacks tests matches, as well as Hurricanes’ 2022 Super Rugby run, reports indicate.
Part of the message thanks the All Blacks halfback for his eight-year service at the Wellington-based outfit, and wishes him well on his “next journey”.
“Sending some Wairua to our departing skipper and Hurricane #182 TJ Perenara, wife Greer and baby Amia as they prepare for their next journey. Thanking your iwi of Ngati Rangitihi, your community of Porirua and your wider Whanau for allowing Hurricanes to have you for the last 8 years. You continue to uphold the mana of our team and rohe and we will see you again soon,” reads the letter.
Perenara joins fellow All Blacks Bauden Barret, who will also be traveling to Japan to join his new side Suntory Sungoliath for the 2021 campaign.
