Heathens RFC have been crowned 2019/2020 Uganda Rugby Premiership champions in an awarding ceremony held at Kyadondo Rugby Club on Saturday 28 November.
The event was presided over by the Uganda Rugby Union and was graced by league sponsors Nile Special Stout.
URU Executive Committee on 30/09/2020 resolved to end the 2019-2020 season, awarding the title to Heathens who were top of the log after 13 rounds of the league which uses the round-robin format to determine the winner.
The decision to cancel the league was arrived at days after the government allowed resumption of sports under strict conditions.
For rugby to resume, clubs were tasked to test players every two weeks. The cheapest a team would spend on the testing would be UGX 240,000 which would be a heavy load for clubs, sponsor or URU to shoulder. One club of 30 players and staff would require UGX 14,400,000 per month of activity.
