Stormers emerged top beating Cheetahs 30-13 in a Super Rugby Unlocked round six clash played at DHL Newlands in Cape Town.
The tight first half ended 13-3 in favour of the hosts.17 more points in the closing half saw the side pick maximum points from the clash. Scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies crossed over for the first try of the match, which flyhalf Damian Willemse converted. They were later awarded a penalty for an offside play, which Willemse scored to increase the lead to 10-0.
Flyhalf Tian Schoeman trimmed that gap with a three-pointer before Willemse’s beautifully struck a drop goal from 45 meters and restored Stormers’ 10-point lead at the break.
In the final half, Schoeman scored another penalty before loose forward Juarno Augustus bagged a converted try for Stormers. Rosko Specman’s try from a counter-attack reduced the deficit to just seven points. Willemse got another three points from the tee for the hosts before he offloaded to Warrick Gelant for another try that won the match.
