Jamie George scored a history-making hat-trick in Autumn Nations Cup as England picked a comfortable 40-0 win at Twickenham on Saturday.
Jack Willis landed the opening try of the day on his Test debut. George who marked his 50th appearance in the Six Nations against Italy would then score two tries off dominant rolling mauls to stretch the lead for England.
Full-back Elliot Daly scored the final try of the opening half for a 26-0 lead at the interval after Owen Farrell’s conversions at 16,30,38th minute.
In the last stanza, George crossed over for his third try that saw him become the first England hooker to score a hat-trick. He also became the third starting hooker in the history of the sport to score a hat-trick after Ireland’s Keith Wood vs USA in 1999 and Julian Montoya for Argentina vs Tonga in 2019.
Scrum-half Dan Robson came off the bench and scored England’s sixth try.
In Florence, Scotland picked a bonus point victory over Italy after a 28-17 win. Italy took an 11-7 lead to the break following Paolo Garbisi’s two penalties and Matteo Minozi’s try while Duhan van der Merwe bagged a converted try for Scotland.
In the final half, Italy managed just two penalties. Scotland bagged converted tries through Zander Fagerson, Scott Cummings and George Turner that ensured the side got maximum points.
On Friday, Wales went down 32-9 to Ireland at Aviva Stadium.
