Stand-out Crusaders rookie set for surgery

Crusaders forward Cullen Grace is scheduled for surgery this Tuesday following an injury on his right thumb.

The Youngster was injured towards the end of their game against Chiefs at Christchurch on Sunday which ended 18-13 in the favour of Crusaders.

“Injury update: Cullen Grace injured his right thumb towards the end of the Chiefs game on Sunday and sustained a fracture at the base of his thumb which will require surgery. He will undergo surgery today and we wish him a speedy recovery!” reads a statement by Crusaders.

The players return date will be determined once he undergoes the surgery. Grace becomes the second player to join the injury list.

Captain Scott Barrett will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby Aotearoa following a toe injury suffered during their opening clash on Sunday and he expected also to undergo surgery.

Crusaders beat Chiefs 18-13 at Orangetheory Stadium to extend their unbeaten run at home to 35 matches. Four points from the assignment have seen then move to nine points at position two.
