Mamboleo Agriculture Society of Kenya Showground is set to be transformed into a 20000 seater stadium with the name changing to Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium Mamboleo.
The venue which is in the outskirts of Kisumu has been home to former Kenya Cup side Kisumu RFC and has hosted the National 7s Circuit leg- Dala 7s. The venue was the first outside Nairobi to host Kenya Simbas International match against Uganda in 2019.
The construction of the ultra-modern stadium will be by the national government through the Ministry of Sports, Heritage and Culture and the beneficiary will be the County Government of Kisumu. The Groundbreaking ceremony took place on Wednesday with Amb. Amina Mohammed leading the ceremony which was attended by Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.

Nyongo in his address said: “We are here to lay the foundation stone for the Jomo Kenya International Stadium. It’s our responsibility as the county to improve our sports infrastructure and we will work on both Moi Stadium and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga venues.”
“I have been coming here (Mamboleo) for the past 17 years for the Agricultural Shows and I asked myself what should happen to this beautiful place after the Agriculture Shows. I felt the venue needed more investment instead of having a beautiful facility just to host Agriculture shows for seven days. I decided that we will have a stadium and a hotel here. Even though I didn’t have money I believed I would achieve it. I would like to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga and Government for the support.” He added.
Amb. Amina on here part believes the stadium will spur massive economic growth in and around the Lake Region Economic Bloc and hopes the stadium will be ready in six months.
