Kenya Rugby Union has moved to suspend all rugby matches of the 2019/20 season starting with the matches which were scheduled to take place on Saturday 14 March.
The decision follows the government directive to have all public gathering, games, events, church crusades and inter-school games suspended after the first Coronavirus case was reported in the country.
This will see the four sides Mwamba, Impala, Oilers and Homeboyz wait longer to have their playoff matches. The KRU Championship matches and Nationwide quarters are also off.
“In light of ongoing developments resulting from the announcement of an active COVID 19 (New Corona Virus) case in the country, and the directive from the Kenyan Health Ministry that among other things, bans public gatherings, the Kenya Rugby Union is announcing the suspension of the 2019-20 season.” reads a statement by KRU.
“This suspension starts with fixtures set for 14 March 2020 across the Kenya Cup, KRU Championship, KRU Nationwide and Eric Shirley Shield competitions.”
